The Plaques and Tangle Tango................

And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.
                                                       Abraham Lincoln

The brain is a wonderful miraculous organ. It houses our center of balance, thought, emotions, breathing, and heartbeat.  It gives us the ability to see, hear, speak, and have movement of our limbs.
Alzheimer’s disease takes away the ability of someone to think, reason, have and coordination. As the disease progresses the person loses their ability to control emotions (happiness, sadness, anger), coordinate balance, hear, speak, and move as they had done before.
Alzheimer’s disease creates plaques and tangles in the brain that cut off circulation and neurological transmission between nerve fibers.
Take a look at the video to take a multi-dimensional ride through the brain………

One of my MANY favorite quotes, "It's the life in your years." Great visual from the video. So many of my patients struggle with some form of dementia plus all of us ask, "Am I next?" This video provides a framework for assessing and understanding. ~Debbie

This video is a great illustration of the processes. It shows how complicated all the relationships in the brain are, and how disruption causes such severe losses. Great use of video in the blog. Barbara
